Farming Campaign

Give a man a fish, he will eat for a day. Teach him how to fish and he will eat for a lifetime!

Our long-term goal is for the Daaras to be self-sufficient and not be dependent on outside help. We are aiming to accomplish self-sufficiency for the Daaras through in-house farming. Growing most of the food they consume would be a huge cost saver for the schools.

Farming is a crucial means to achieve self-independence and sustainability, particularly in the context of boarding schools or any organization seeking to reduce reliance on external sources. By engaging in agricultural practices and growing their own food, these institutions can become self-sufficient, reducing costs and ensuring a steady supply of nutritious meals for their students.

One of the ways in which our nonprofit organization helps boarding schools achieve self-independence is by providing guidance and resources related to farming and food production. We understand the importance of empowering schools to take control of their food supply chain and promote sustainable practices.

In Senegal, the farming season is traditionally restricted to a few months of rainfall. We have implemented an irrigation system that allows schools to farm year-round, breaking free from seasonal constraints.

With the installation of reliable and sustainable irrigation infrastructure, we ensure that one of our boarding schools has access to water throughout the year, regardless of rainfall patterns. This technology enables schools to cultivate crops even during the dry season, providing a consistent and diverse food supply for their students.

We empowered the school to expand its farming capabilities and achieve year-round productivity. Through our irrigation initiative, we were proud in allowing  (Daara Babacar Syalla) to overcome water scarcity challenges and embrace farming as a year-round, reliable means of self-sustainability.

As part of our relentless commitment to fostering self-sustainability among boarding schools, we recently assisted a second school in acquiring land, marking a significant step towards their agricultural independence. Now, we are embarking on the next phase of our mission by rallying support and calling people to action. We invite everyone to contribute, whether through monetary donations or the provision of farming equipment.

With the acquisition of land, this school has the potential to expand its farming initiatives and make a lasting impact on its students and the surrounding community.

Donating is simple. Visit our website to learn more about our cause and the specific needs of the school we are supporting. You can make a monetary donation through secure online channels or contact us directly to discuss equipment donations. We ensure that every contribution is utilized efficiently and transparently, directly benefiting the school and furthering our mission of promoting self-sustainability.

There are well systems within the farms to provide sustainable water sources. These wells play a crucial role in ensuring a consistent and reliable water supply for irrigation and other farming needs.

Water scarcity is a significant challenge in many regions where our supported schools are located. By drilling wells within the farms, we address this issue head-on, enabling the schools to access groundwater resources that can be utilized throughout the year.

By having access to clean water on-site, our boarding schools can significantly reduce their reliance on external water sources. This not only improves their autonomy but also ensures a reliable and consistent water supply throughout the year. Students and staff can benefit from clean water for drinking, cooking, maintaining personal hygiene, and supporting the overall sanitation needs of the school premises.

Moreover, the availability of excess water from the wells creates an opportunity for income generation. The schools can explore selling water to neighboring communities, and local businesses, or even participate in water distribution programs. This additional income stream can be reinvested in furthering the schools’ agricultural initiatives, expanding educational programs, or improving infrastructure, thereby enhancing their overall self-sustainability and impact.

We invite you to be part of our mission to empower boarding schools within our foundation on their path to self-sustainability. Your support is crucial in helping us acquire land, obtain essential equipment, and establish farm projects for each school. By making a financial donation, spreading the word about our cause, volunteering your time and expertise, donating farming equipment or resources, or exploring collaboration opportunities, you can actively contribute to the transformative impact we seek to achieve.

Together, let’s create a future where every school within our foundation can thrive, cultivate self-sufficiency, and make a lasting difference in their communities. Join us today and take a significant step towards building a more sustainable and resilient future.
